Information About Services

Reachnet offers customers the choice of two service types.

  • Three No contract data plans for broadband satellite customers that wish to access the internet and email. When the data allowance is reached the service speed is shaped (reduced) to 64/64kbps. The plan can be upgraded (to a higher data allowance) or additional data blocks can be purchased to restore the service to normal speeds. Each service includes three email addresses as standard.
  • Three 12 month data with phone plans for broadband satellite customers that wish to access the internet, email and use VoIP (voice over IP) phone services. When the data allowance is reached the service speed is shaped (reduced) to 64/64kbps. The plan can be upgraded (to a higher data allowance) or additional data blocks can be purchased to restore the service to normal speeds. Each service includes three email addresses as standard.

    • When a data service is shaped, the normal speed will be restored at the start of the new month.

    Both service types are available to Reachnet NBN and non NBN customers. Customer speeds will vary depending on location, the modem signal strength and network congestion. Peak speeds for Reachnet NBN customers may achieve 6/1 mbps and Reachnet non-NBN services may achieve 512/128 kbps.

    All plans are invoiced monthly in advance and phone charges monthly in arrears. If the customer account is not paid, the service may be suspended or terminated in accordance with the Standard Form of Agreement.

    For VoIP services, a phone number that reflects your geographic location will be allocated. Other features of the service include;

  • Calls to other Reachnet VoIP customers are free.
  • The Reachnet VoIP phone service is simple to set up and easy to operate.
  • The Reachnet VoIP service is exclusive to Reachnet NBN customers.
  • All customers who enter into a 12 month contract with Reachnet for a Data with phone service will receive an Analogue Telephone Adaptor (ATA). Included with the ATA will be easy to follow instructions on how to connect the ATA to the modem.
  • Once the ATA is connected you will be able to make and receive calls – no software is needed but you must supply your own handset.

    • Early termination charges

    A cancellation fee equivalent to the remaining contract value is payable on early termination of a service within the contract service. For services where a contract period does not apply, 45 days' notice is required to cancel a service without charge. For immediate service termination outside the contract period the equivalent of one and a half month's monthly service fee is payable.

    Additional service charges

    Public IP address - $10 per month per address
    Additional email address – $2 per month

    Other Information

    Maximum browsing and download speeds for satellite broadband are dependent on a number of issues including the number of users using the service within the network at any one time, performance of the satellite system, weather conditions (locally and at the station) and the applications being used. Customers may find certain applications will not run as effectively on a satellite broadband service, when compared to an ADSL broadband service. This is largely due to technical differences between the technology types.
