Am I eligible?
Below is a guide of the how you will be classified for eligibility for the NBN interim satellite broadband service.
You might be eligible for a NBN Satellite Service if:
- If you don't have access to a metro-comparable broadband service in your area for example (ADSL, ADSL2+, 3G wireless, or fixed wireless under the ABG in 2010-11) and,
You must be either:
- A residential customer
- One service per customer
- The dwelling proposed must be your principal place of residence
- You must have been or are intending to reside at the premises for 12 months
If you are applying as a small business you need to ensure that:
- You have no more than 20 full-time employees (FTE's)
- You may only have one connection per place of business
- There can only be one residential or small business connection per customer
If you are applying as an Indigenous Community Organisation
- Any Indigenous Community Organisation can apply but you will need to provide your ICO registration details
Initially, with the limited number of places available, priority will be given to those eligible users
Who have never had an ABG service or have had the service cancelled
Consideration will also be given to those customers who have an ABG service which is not operating through no fault of the customer and to Customers whose ABG service was connected more than three years ago.
The following organisations are not eligible for a NBN Satellite Service:
- Government organisations including, Commonwealth, state and local government
- Education organisations including tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools, childcare and day care centers and other education facilities (regardless or whether they are Government controlled or private)
- Large businesses, defined as those with more than 20 FTE's are not eligible
Eligible Premises
- A distinct house, including a granny flat on a block of land under a single title
- A flat or apartment in a block of flats or apartments
- Houses, cottages or other dwellings on a farming property that are separate places or residences
- Self-contained and distinct places of residence within retirement villages and nursing homes
- A caravan, cabin or like structure that is permanently located at a particular location
- A permanently moored vessel that is the principal place of residence
